Lancaster County's Extraordinary Give smashes record

By ,

Lancaster County nonprofits raised $8.6 million during this year's Extraordinary Give, a one-day fundraising event designed to spur charitable giving countywide.

The fundraising total was 21.1 percent higher than it was for last year's Extraordinary Give, which brought in around $7.1 million.

Launched in 2012 by the Lancaster County Community Foundation, the Extraordinary Give has grown steadily through the years.

The first event raised $1.67 million from 6,424 donors for 192 nonprofits.

This year, more than 450 nonprofits took part, while the number of donors reached 23,743, up from 21,686 in 2016, according to the foundation.

The number of self-identified first-time donors also rose, hitting 10,800 this year, up from 10,025 last year.

Total gifts, meanwhile, surpassed 50,000. The number climbed to 51,619 this year, up more than 13 percent from 45,478 last year.
