Capital City Mall will welcome state liquor store this weekTV personality Kathie Lee Gifford will help cut the ribbon for new store
The owner of the Capital City Mall has been busy recently with ribbon cuttings for new stores.
On Friday, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board will open its Fine Wine & Good Spirits Premium Collection store at the Cumberland County mall. A smaller Sears store opened last week at the mall, which is owned by Philadelphia-based PREIT. A Dick's Sporting Goods opened in late September at the mall.
All three stores are operating in what was a larger Sears store that closed earlier this year. PREIT has been trying to remake the mall with smaller stores and nontraditional mall tenants as big retail chains face mounting pressure from people shopping more online.
TV personality Kathie Lee Gifford, who has a line of wines called GIFFT, will help cut the ribbon at 4 p.m. for the new state liquor store. Gifford a co-host of the fourth hour of "Today" on NBC, will then remain in the store to meet and greet fans who purchase her wines.
Bottles also will be available for sale before the event, including during the liquor store's soft opening on Thursday, according to the PLCB.
On the horizon for Capital City is a Dave & Buster's, which will take over the Old Navy space on the other side of the Cumberland County shopping complex. Dave & Buster's is slated to open in 2018.
