Lancaster County engineering firm Rettew Associates Inc. has opened a second office in Ohio to support growing demand in the energy sector.

The new St. Clairsville office will primarily serve as a field office for Rettew's work for clients in the Utica Shale Play. Rettew also has employees in that area who are working in the industrial, development and transportation sectors.

The Manor Township-based firm, which has an Ohio office in Uniontown and nearby in Pittsburgh, expects up to 10 employees at the site regularly. That number could increase as client needs grow in the region.

Rettew now operates nine offices in four states throughout the Northeast and Midwest. The company is planning to open two more offices in Pennsylvania within the next month.

Most of the firm's work involves environmental investigation, land planning and engineering design. Its clients reach across Pennsylvania and into eastern Ohio, the panhandle of West Virginia and parts of New York. Oil and gas clients pushed Rettew to open an office in Colorado in 2012.

Rettew has more than 350 employees. The company finished last year with $50.2 million in revenue, according to Business Journal records.
