Carlisle brewery wins medal at Great American Beer Festival

By ,

Carlisle's Desperate Times Brewery, one of a growing number of craft-beer producers in the borough, took home a silver medal last week at the 36th annual Great American Beer Festival in Colorado.

Desperate Times was recognized in the dark lager category for its DTB Schwarzbier.

In total, 16 awards were given to 14 commonwealth breweries at the festival. Here is the full list of winners.

Other Pennsylvania winners included Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant's Media location, which picked up two awards. Iron Hill also has a location in Lancaster.

Easton-based Weyerbacher Brewing Co. won a bronze medal in the fruited wood- and barrel-aged sour beer category. Co-owner Chris Lampe will be the keynote speaker at the Business Journal's Business of Beer event on Wednesday in Lancaster County.

In total, 293 medals were awarded at the festival, according to the Brewers Association, which puts on the world's largest commercial beer competition.
