Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro is helping to lead a nationwide investigation into a major data breach at credit reporting agency Equifax.

The hack may have affected up to 143 million people, just under half the U.S. population, and potentially compromised sensitive information like social security numbers, birthdates, addresses and driver's license information. About 209,000 consumers may have had credit card numbers exposed.

The breach likely occurred between mid-May and July, with Equifax discovering it July 29 and revealing the breach to the public last week. It is not yet clear how many Pennsylvanians were affected.

Shapiro is leading the investigation into the breach alongside attorneys general from Connecticut and Illinois. Officials from other states, including New York, are also looking into the issue.

“Pennsylvania’s Bureau of Consumer Protection is fully investigating this matter, including the months-long delay for Equifax to notify consumers, and we will take every step necessary to hold them accountable for compromising Pennsylvanians’ personal information,” Shapiro said in a news release Monday.

Shapiro also encouraged Pennsylvanians to find out if they were affected in the hack and sign up for free credit monitoring and identity theft protection through Equifax.

This is a serious issue to consider for the users. The data breach issues have been affecting a lot of companies and individuals as well. The investigation should be more serious and he needs to prepare a detailed report of the same. glass bongs online

You may not want to enter your name and part of your SSN in the website provided by Equifax.
