Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau changes name
The Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau is putting more action into its name.
The group, which leads tourism efforts for Dauphin County, is changing its name to Visit Hershey & Harrisburg. The organization has used that name in some sales and marketing materials for the past six years but is making it official effective immediately.
"Changing the name of the organization responsible for marketing a destination to more closely align with the destination’s branding is not uncommon in the (destination marketing organization) world," organization president and CEO Mary Smith said in a news release. "It's one of the easiest ways for our organization to associate itself with the destination we represent in the minds of our community, our customers and our clientele."
Visit Hershey & Harrisburg joins several other midstate tourism organization in switching to a snappier moniker. The former PA Dutch Convention & Visitors Bureau changed its name to Discover Lancaster in 2015. The Gettysburg Convention & Visitors Bureau became simply Destination Gettysburg in 2014.
Although the Dauphin County organization's new name is official now, a transition will likely take some time as tourism officials phase out the old name from existing office supplies and promotional materials.
