The Week Ahead: Hearing on Perdue request, dance studio grand opening
Here's the news you can use in the midstate this week.
DEP schedules hearing related to Perdue's soybean processing plant
The state's Department of Environmental Protection plans to hold a public hearing Thursday regarding Perdue's nearly-completed soybean processing plant in northwestern Lancaster County.
The hearing relates to Perdue's application to buy emission reduction credits, credits that companies earn when they cut air pollution beyond what is required by law. Companies like Perdue can use these credits for facilities that they feel need to release more potentially polluting compounds.
The hearing is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bainbridge Fire Hall.
The long-planned soybean processing plant in Conoy Township has met mixed reactions from Lancaster County residents, with some saying it could cut costs for farmers who currently have to ship soybeans out-of-state for processing. Others have expressed concerns about the plant's environmental impact.
Perdue plans to begin operations at the facility in September.
York redevelopment authority to meet
The York City Redevelopment Authority, the government board helping to lead business and residential revitalization efforts in its city, holds its monthly meeting Wednesday at 4 p.m. at York City Hall, 101 S. George St.
The authority owns properties like the former Citizens Bank building in York’s square and a large section of land in York’s Northwest Triangle area. It is working now with developers who are studying plans to possibly develop both sites.
Grand opening set for new dance studio
A new York-area business will host a grand opening celebration for the community Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.
The new Fred Astaire Dance Studio, at 1113 Carlisle Road in West Manchester Township, will feature a ribbon-cutting, food and drink, a cake and dance demonstrations at the celebration, its officials said.
