Dennis Pyers is stepping into a familiar role at Unilife Corp.: interim chief financial officer.

Pyers, 56, has been named to the post after David Hastings, a senior vice president, CFO and chief accounting officer, resigned last week to pursue other opportunities.

Unilife, a developer, manufacturer and supplier of injectable drug-delivery systems, is based at a $40 million headquarters and production facility on a 35-acre site in Conewago Township, York County.

The company has gone through a number of high-profile personnel changes as it struggles to stay afloat. Founder and former CEO Alan Shortall was ousted last year, and Unilife filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April.

Hastings' departure as CFO means Pyers will hold the job on an interim basis for a second time.

Pyers was named interim CFO in March 2014 when Richard Wieland left the company after four years as executive vice president and CFO.

After Hastings was named to the role, Pyers became senior vice president and controller.

A CPA, Pyers has been with the company since 2010. He had been serving as senior adviser, special projects, since July 2016.

Hastings joined Unilife in February 2015. He agreed to continue serving as an adviser to the company, a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said.
