More than 500 group travel leaders and tour operators will return to Gettysburg in March for the first time since 2010 as part of an annual marketplace event organized by the Maryland Motorcoach Association.

A team from Destination Gettysburg, which markets the area for tourism, as well as dozens of area businesses and organizations, will showcase Adams County on March 30 through tours, expos and other networking events.

"This is an incredible opportunity for this destination to show the group travel industry the variety of experiences that the county offers group travelers — everything from history and heritage to our emerging food and craft beverage scene, great shopping and outdoor recreation," said Norris Flowers, president of Destination Gettysburg.

Adams County attracts more than 15,000 groups each year, the organization said. The county's tourism industry annually pumps more than $660 million into the local economy and supports more than 7,500 local jobs.

The marketplace event will include a morning expo at the Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel where Adams County businesses and organizations will join with other tourism-related entities from around southcentral Pennsylvania to network with the association's travel leaders and tour operators.

Afterward, group travel representatives will go on one of 10 tours that will showcase different aspects of Adams County tourism. Tour subjects will include the Civil War battlefield and civilian tours, shopping and wine tasting, President Lincoln's visit to Gettysburg, and the Underground Railroad, among others.
