Smith Elliott Kearns & Co., a CPA firm with offices in Central Pennsylvania and Maryland, added five people from Cumberland County-based Klingler & Associates, PC to its fold at the start of the new year.

Klingler & Associates staff members, including owner John Klingler, have moved to Smith Elliott Kearns' offices in Carlisle and Camp Hill, the firms announced in a news release Wednesday.

“We have grown significantly over the past few years, and this success led us to search out a partner for the future," Klingler said in the release. "Joining forces with SEK&Co has exceeded my hopes for a company that will continue our traditions of excellent service and expertise for our clients.”

Smith Elliott has six offices throughout the region, including a recently opened location in downtown York. The roughly 54-year-old accounting and consulting firm has 22 members and a total staff of 170.

“We are happy to welcome the Klingler group to our team,” John Schnitzer, managing member of Smith Elliott Kearns, said in Wednesday's release. “These seasoned accountants bring depth, experience and a culture fit to our already strong team of professionals in Cumberland County.”

Last week, two other accounting firms serving Cumberland County - Boyer & Ritter LLC and Waggoner Frutiger & Daub - also announced they had merged, with Boyer & Ritter acquiring the smaller Mechanicsburg-based firm.
