Radiation oncologists join LG Health
Lancaster General Health has signed on its first radiation oncologists.
Two Radiation oncologists from Lancaster Radiology Associates have joined the LG Health/Penn Medicine health system. The oncologists, Dr. Kenneth G. Berkenstock and Dr. Kishor Singapuri, will be the first to work within a new practice, LG Health Physicians Radiation Oncology, the health system announced last week.
The practice will be housed in the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute at 2102 Harrisburg Pike in East Hempfield Township. The institute is part of Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center.
LG Health Physicians Radiation Oncology will use radiation therapy to treat patients who have cancer and other diseases, a news release said.
Dr. Berkenstock and Dr. Singapuri have both worked locally for more than 15 years.
Under the umbrella of Lancaster Radiology Associates, the two doctors have been providing care at the cancer institute since it opened in 2013.
Because the doctors are now part of LG Health, their patients will no longer be billed by multiple companies, potentially improving the patient experience, according to LG Health spokesperson John Lines.
Patients' electronic health records also will be kept in LG Health’s system, and be integrated with other specialists providing support at the cancer institute.
The new hires will also allow the LG Health to expand radiation oncology services by hiring additional physicians and adding services, Lines added.
Editor's Note: This story has been modified from its original version to reflect that only two physicians from Lancaster Radiology Associates joined Lancaster General Health. Lancaster Radiology Associates continues to operate independently.
