Wagner to head Senate Local Government committeeYork-area state senator to lead panel for 2017-18

By ,

York County State Sen. Scott Wagner has been appointed chairman of the Senate Local Government Committee for the 2017-2018 legislative session, his office said Thursday.

The York Republican, also the president and owner of Penn Waste Inc., said in a statement he expects the committee over the next session to be involved in a number of key issues, including municipal pension reform, property assessment procedure updates, and the reduction of state mandates.

Wagner was appointed by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson).

“It is important that we in Harrisburg work with our local governments to improve efficiency, as well as manage and control costs, so they can provide the necessary services to residents without the burden of constant tax increases,” Wagner said.

Wagner, who represents the York-area 28th state senatorial district in Harrisburg, has said he is considering a possible run for governor in 2018.
