Providing small family farms access to markets is what keeps Mark A. Sauder motivated. He is proud of the network of producers he has access to, many of whom sold eggs to his grandfather. He recalls how his father gave him the best business advice he’s ever received when he suggested Sauder work outside the family business for five years after college. This was the single best decision he made in his career.

Sauder enjoys living in Central Pennsylvania due to the large supply of small-scale farms in close proximity to a third of the U.S. population. He considers his biggest success to be convincing his Colorado-native wife move to Pennsylvania, while his best mistake was becoming a father. He admits he didn’t think he was ready to be a parent, but it’s now his greatest joy. His colleagues would describe Sauder as very intelligent, focused, persistent and engaging.
