The local projects that received support are:

- Harrisburg Parks Foundation, Fourth and Emerald streets, playground/pavilion improvement.

- Manada Conservancy, youth environmental and outdoor education.

Cumberland County:

- Hope Station Opportunity Area Neighborhood Council, community outreach for Memorial Park neighborhood in Carlisle.

- Safe Harbour, bridge housing program.

Lebanon/Lancaster County:

Boy Scouts of America, Pennsylvania Dutch Council, “Camperships” (financial assistance) for its summer camp program.

More than $100,000 is being donated to the area nonprofits, grant officials said, part of $450,000 in all being distributed to 95 organizations across Pennsylvania.

PPL Foundation officials said contributions also were made to the Lancaster Public Library, other libraries and literacy-focused organizations in support of “Cover to Cover,” the foundation's new effort to improve child literacy through reading and summer learning programs.

The PPL Foundation awards grants in the spring and fall.

The next cycle, for major grants, begins in August.

To be considered for a grant, all organizations must apply online and can visit www.pplcares.com for details.
