York's DreamWrights to launch $2.5 million capital campaign
A nearly 20-year-old hub for the arts in downtown York, also a home away from home for children and teens, is getting set to “hit the ground running.”
On July 1, DreamWrights Center for Community Arts will kick off the public phase of its $2.5 million capital campaign, an effort its officials hope will allow it to “increase the reach of its special programs and programming,” while also revitalizing its 100 Carlisle Ave. center.
Through the campaign, “DreamWrights will expand and diversify its programming, participants and stakeholders, thereby meeting its mission more fully,” said a news release from the center.
“The renovations will enable DreamWrights to create better spaces for experimentation, participation and learning throughout the building,” it added.
The capital campaign will be led by officials from two well-known York County companies: J. T. Hand, chief operating officer at the York Water Company, whose own children took part in theater productions at DreamWrights; and Suzanne McConkey, vice president of human resources at Glatfelter Insurance.
“Through this campaign, we have an opportunity to open wide our doors, to draw back the curtains and offer more diverse and expansive programming,” Hand said.
McConkey added that DreamWrights, which features family-friendly plays and classes, “offers the opportunity for people of all ages to test their creative juices and energy in a very safe and comfortable place.
“It gives kids the opportunity to do something other than sports and electronics and meet kids outside of their classroom and school district. It gets adults connecting with people outside of their typical circle.”
