Cumberland County grew the most of any county in the commonwealth, by percentage, between April 2010 and July 2014.

Long-term projections have Cumberland County continuing as one of the fastest-growing counties through 2040.

The current projection is 19.2 percent growth between 2010 and 2040, while neighboring Dauphin County is expected to grow by 10.7 percent over that span.

The top five municipalities for growth in Cumberland County through 2040 are:

  • Hampden Township: 6,749, or 24.1 percent
  • Upper Allen Township: 4,688, or 26 percent
  • Silver Spring Township: 4,198, or 30.7 percent
  • East Pennsboro Township: 3,686, or 18.2 percent
  • South Middleton Township: 3,350, or 22.8 percent

Shiremanstown is the only municipality in the county not expected to grow, according to the long-term projections.

In Dauphin County, Lower Paxton Township leads the way with projected population growth of 7,870 between 2010 and 2040. Susquehanna Township is No. 2 at 3,455.
