Woodcraft moving to larger facility in Susquehanna Township

By ,

The Harrisburg-York franchise store of Woodcraft Supply LLC, one of the nation's oldest and largest suppliers of quality woodworking tools and supplies, is moving from Swatara Township to neighboring Susquehanna Township.

Owner Mary Winkler said the Sept. 11 move to 3831 Union Deposit Road from 777 Eisenhower Blvd. will expand operations to about 10,000 square feet from its current 7,000 square feet, which will give the business more room for its growing inventory. The location also offers greater visibility.

“We wanted a little more foot traffic and more parking,” said Winkler, who also owns the Woodcraft franchise in Allentown. “In order for us to grow our customer base, we need to do something different. We can’t put any more inventory in our current location. We’re bursting at the seams.”

Woodcraft has been operating on Eisenhower Boulevard for about 12 years, Winkler said. It is one of more than 70 stores nationwide and one of three in Pennsylvania.

“I know the market is there,” Winkler said, adding that there are plans to increase its space for education.

Woodcraft offers free monthly demonstration workshops for woodworking enthusiasts. It also has fee-based classes.

The Dauphin County store employs 13 people. The plan is to add a 14th staff member with the move to the Union Square Shopping Center, Winkler said.

The Eisenhower Boulevard location will close at 2 p.m. Sept. 9. Following the Sept. 11 soft opening, a grand opening event at the new location will occur Oct. 3-5.
