Maewyn's Irish Pub is closed

By ,

The Maewyn's Irish Pub sign is gone at 110 N. George St.

The former downtown York restaurant, owned by Heritage Hospitality Management, the parent of Heritage Hills Golf Resort, has been closed since early July, said Alyssa Girouard, Heritage's marketing brand manager.

She released the following statement on behalf of the company:

"After three and a half years, we have decided to discontinue operating Maewyn’s in order to focus on our other products and properties. We are committed to exploring new ways to create positive customer experiences at all Heritage Hospitality establishments.

"We do not wish to comment further."

Heritage had announced in January that it would only be open on weekends and for private functions. The goal at that time, company officials said, was to cater more to the growing business meeting market, as well as to serve crowds attending shows at the nearby Strand Capital.

The restaurant is listed for rent by Rock Commercial Real Estate. A phone call to the real estate agent handling the listing was not immediately returned.

According to the listing, the first floor and a rear unit on the second floor are part of the rental. The total space is 7,766 square feet. A price per square foot is not listed.

Meanwhile, the upper floors of the building were being renovated by York law firm Katherman Briggs & Greenberg LLP. Brian Strong, one of the firm's managing partners, said the office will move from its 7 E. Market St. location to the third and fourth floors of the building Sept. 26.

The building is broken into six condos, Strong said, and the law firm's buying the third and fourth floor gives them control over three of those spaces.

Both third-floor condos used to be owned by Bennett Williams Realty Inc., Strong said. The front office was subleased to Gavin Advertising, which moved to its new location at 328 W. Market St. a few weeks ago.
