Lebanon Valley College has become the latest local private school to join the Common Application.

The nonprofit organization, started in 1975, provides a single, free online application for college-bound students to apply to any of its member schools.

According to its website, Common Application now has more than 500 public and private college and university members in the U.S. and overseas, drawing 813,069 student applicants for the 2013-14 school year. Of those, 28.6 percent were first-generation college students.

“The Common App streamlines the college application process for high school students,” Sue Jones, LVC's senior associate director of admission, said in a news release. “It will expand Lebanon Valley College’s reach to hundreds of thousands of students and families who may be seeking an active and engaged education at a regional liberal arts school and were previously unaware of our institution.”

Other local institutions using Common Application and the year they joined are as follows:

LVC said joining Common Application did not change its admission standards' level of competitiveness.

"Most accepted students have a challenging schedule of college preparatory courses throughout high school and rank in the top half of their class and/or maintain a B average," a news release said. "Lebanon Valley College has historically attracted and nurtured first-generation college students: there are more than 21 percent first-generation students in the incoming Class of 2018."
