The York-based Manufacturers' Association has named Tom Palisin as its new executive director.
He succeeds Michael Smeltzer, who resigned in May after 13 years of leading the association. Jack Bardol, president of Bardol & Co. in Manchester Township, led the organization on an interim basis since then.
Palisin, the sixth executive director since the association was founded in 1906, was most recently manufacturing and life sciences ombudsman for Pennsylvania. He has worked with manufacturing companies throughout the state for 20 years, the association said in a news release.
The association works on manufacturing issues for more than 350 member companies within southcentral Pennsylvania and northern Maryland.
Among recent projects, Smeltzer and the association led an effort to develop potential employees for the warehouse/distribution sector through a pilot program that kicked off in March. The program put 80 potential workers, mostly younger, through 80 hours of classroom training.
Palisin graduated from Penn State and resides in New Cumberland with his wife, Patti, and their two children.
