Groundbreaking set for Zig's Bakery project in Warwick Township

By ,

Groundbreaking on a renovation project in Warwick Township that will become an event venue and the new home of Zig's Bakery is set for Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Minnich's Farm Bakery was built in 1970 at 87 Green Acre Road in Warwick Township, and in 2001 Country Home Catering Inc. owners Dean and Carole Ziegler bought it with their son, Brandon, then renamed it Zig's Bakery & Deli LLC.

"With the growth of our parent company Country Home Catering, we considered a combined location that would accommodate a spacious kitchen for both businesses, retail space, and a banquet facility," Brandon Ziegler wrote a bog post earlier this month. "Zoning, financing, location, and available space made our search challenging."

However, Ziegler said today, challenging was not impossible, and plans have now been finalized. Zig's will move to 800 E. Newport Road, where a barn built in the 1800s will be renovated. Lancaster-based RGS Associates Inc. and Manheim-based Speedwell Construction Inc. are handling the project, with completion and the move planned for early 2015.

Zig's will be renamed Zig’s Bakery & Cafe and, with four times the retail space it currently has, will be open Monday through Saturday offering breakfast, lunch, and light dinner options. Seating for up to 60 people will be available in the cafe, with additional outdoor patio seating.

The site will also be home to Brick Gables, a venue for weddings, gatherings and events. It will have the capacity to host events of up to 300 guests in a climate-controlled environment, with what Ziegler described as "a beautifully hardscaped courtyard, views of farmland and convenient asphalt parking" outside.
