Demolition of the former IAC plant in Carlisle resumed Monday after several weeks of inactivity.
Work at the site halted in the spring after Carlisle Events had issues with the contractor that was hired, Battlestone Steel. The project was re-bid, and the Downingtown-based Terra-Technical Services took over.
Carlisle Events purchased the former manufacturing plant along Carlisle Springs Road in late 2010. It is expected to take four to six months to fully demolish and clean up all remaining aspects of the property, the company said in a news release.
“In May we made reference to wanting to resume work on the property by July,” said Tom Richey of Carlisle Events. “While that time table stretched into mid-August, we are proud to say that things are back on track and people will see a noticeable difference very soon. We are excited to be working with Terra-Technical Services on this project as well as continuing to work with the Carlisle Borough as part of our ongoing redevelopment plans.”
Carlisle Events plans to utilize the site for a variety of purposes, the release said. Development plans call for a mixed use that hosts at least one hotel, restaurants, offices and residential units. In addition, a large parking lot will remain to not only accommodate businesses and their guests, but also to host those attending collector car events at the nearby Carlisle Fairgrounds.
“While these efforts won’t be completed overnight, we are finally moving in a direction that everyone can be satisfied with," Richey said. "We thank everyone for their patience too and look forward to this phase of the operation being completed in the coming months.”
