Maryland-based Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. said it will close its $985 million acquisition of Allbritton Communications on Friday.
Two weeks ago, the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust division said it would sign off on the deal as long as Sinclair agreed to sell WHTM-TV (ABC27), citing competitive concerns and prices for spot advertising in Central Pennsylvania.
Sinclair had previously agreed to sell the Harrisburg television station to Media General Inc. for $83.4 million. It is also selling the non-license assets of a Fox affiliate in South Carolina to Cunningham Communications.
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission approved the Allbritton acquisition last week. The proposal was announced last July.
Sinclair will now own and operate, program or provide sales services to 162 television stations in 78 markets.
