Red Robin Gourmet Burgers Inc. will break ground on its first restaurant in York County on Wednesday, and the new facility will be a “prototype” for the burger chain.

Lehigh Valley Restaurant Group Inc.’s 21st Red Robin is expected to open in the fall at the York Galleria on a parcel facing Mount Zion Road, according to the firm.

The restaurant plans to hire about 150 employees starting in September.

The prototype concept is part of Red Robin corporate brand transformation initiative, said Patricia Sobaru, Lehigh’s senior marketing manager. The restaurant will have new color schemes, new furniture, carpeting, new pictures and décor, as well as a new service model and burgers.

"This restaurant will look and feel different from all our other Red Robin restaurants … so say good-bye to the carousel horses you once saw in our restaurants," Sobaru said in an email. “This will be the first Red Robin in our Lehigh Valley Restaurant Group franchise to be built this way and we are excited to receive the public’s opinion on it when it opens in the fall.”

Lehigh will reveal more about the new service model, which includes a new seating model, as the restaurant's opening approaches, Sobaru said.

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for 11:30 a.m. at the site, featuring comments from Lehigh Valley Restaurant Group CEO Jim Ryan; board member Cindy Lobach; Springettsbury Township Board of Supervisors Chairman George Dvoryak; York Traditions Bank President and CEO Michael Kochenour; York County Commissioner Doug Hoke; and Lobar Associates President and CEO Lee Eichelberger.

Great. Another chain restaurant that everyone will flock to providing us with the same fare the other chains offer. Meanwhile, the really good, unique, locally owned restaurants will suffer. Classy!
