Manheim Auto Auction reinstates closed sales for GM

The world's largest auto auction started in Manheim and still operates here, and now it's bringing closed sales back to the local branch.

Manheim Pennsylvania announced today that as of last month it is holding closed sales for General Motors on the fourth Thursday of every month. Its regular open sales happen every Friday.

The closed sales are open only to GM dealerships and are designed to help them build their pre-owned vehicle inventories, according to a news release.

“We are very glad to host the General Motors closed sales again at Manheim Pennsylvania,” said Julie Picard, market vice president and general manager at Manheim Pennsylvania.

Greg Gehman, who worked for Manheim Pennsylvania for 20 years before opening ABC Lancaster nearby in 2012, told the Business Journal in March that Manheim caters to new-car dealers, with late-model vehicles averaging maybe 20,000 to 30,000 miles.

By contrast, Gehman said, ABC works with a lot of used-car dealers, with vehicles averaging 70,000 to 80,000 miles.
