YTI Career Institute announced today it will launch a nine-month pharmacy technician program at the York campus in October.

The program will prepare students for employment in a variety of health care settings, including retail pharmacies, hospitals, assisted-living facilities and community health centers. In addition to gaining hands-on experience in classrooms and labs, all students also will complete a pharmacy technician externship, according to YTI.

The U.S. Department of Labor forecasts faster than average growth for the position of pharmacy technician, with nearly 105,900 projected job openings in the next 10 years, YTI said. Pharmacy technicians in Pennsylvania earned a median wage of $13.65 an hour in 2013, according to the Occupational Information Network.

Enrollment for the program begins today, and for students who begin the program before the end of the year, the total cost including tuition, books and supplies is $15,000, YTI said. Financial aid is available to students who qualify.

YTI Career Institute has campuses in Altoona, Lancaster and York and offers career education in the business, culinary, medical and technology fields.
