Lower Allen Township-based Select Medical Corp. announced today that its partnership with Emory Healthcare, the largest health system in Georgia, was finalized Tuesday.
The companies have collaborated on post-acute care since 2000, according to a news release.
Details of the partnership are as follows. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
• Emory’s Center for Rehabilitation Medicine has been renamed Emory Rehabilitation Hospital. Emory will be its majority owner, and Select will provide management services. Workers will remain Emory employees.
• Select's 23 outpatient clinics around metro Atlanta, formerly operating as Select Physical Therapy, have been renamed Emory Rehabilitation Outpatient Centers. Workers are transitioning to become Emory employees, with Select managing the clinics.
• Select will be majority owner and manage three long-term acute-care hospitals in the greater Atlanta area, including LTAC services at Emory Wesley Woods Hospital on Clifton Road. As a hospital entity of its own, it will operate as Select Specialty Hospital-Northeast Atlanta, and workers there will become Select employees. The other two are Select Specialty Hospital – Atlanta and Regency Hospital.
“The level of cooperation in this partnership, not to mention the attention we will all have on making sure each patient is treated in the appropriate setting for his or her condition represents the future of health care,” said David S. Chernow, president and CEO of Select.
“This new partnership with Select Medical will enable us to grow our services and enhance the outstanding care we already provide to our patients,” said John T. Fox, president and CEO of Emory.
Founded in 1996, Select is one of the nation's largest providers of specialized acute and post-acute care, with a network of nearly 32,000 employees. Select trades its shares on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol SEM.
