York County will be hosting a youth wrestling tournament expected to draw thousands of wrestlers, coaches, officials and spectators and generate $3 million in direct economic impact over three years.

The Cadet National Dual Meet Championships, also called the Cadet National Duals, will be held at the Utz Arena at the York Expo Center in summer 2015 and at the Expo Center’s Memorial Hall in 2016 and 2017.

During a news conference Wednesday at Utz Arena, York County Convention and Visitors Bureau President Anne Druck said the organization had tried wooing the tournament from USA Wrestling six times before over the past decade.

Those competing in the event, previously held in Kansas City, Mo.; Rochester, Minn.; and Daytona Beach, Fla., were born in 1998 and 1999. They will be competing in Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling. The Pennsylvania Amateur Wrestling Federation will act as host.

The event’s goal is to “provide a low-cost opportunity for individuals to get the widest possible exposure to national-caliber competition” prior to USA Wrestling’s annual Cadet National Championships, according to the bureau.

Below are tweets from the news conference.
