Pa. offender monitoring company acquired

By ,

A Nebraska-based offender monitoring systems company has acquired a similar company that operates in Pennsylvania.

Vigilnet America LLC of Omaha acquired the assets of Mid-Atlantic Monitoring Services LLC, which has an office at 11 E. Market St. in downtown York as well as outside Scranton. The deal makes Vigilnet America one of the largest multistate providers of alternative sentencing programs in the country, according to a news release. The transaction, announced this week, was effective June 1.

MAMS, established in 2005, has provided services that include SCRAM continuous alcohol monitoring and GPS tracking in 70 counties in Pennsylvania and Delaware, according to the release. Vigilnet, founded in 2006, operates in Nebraska, Oregon and Washington state and will continue to serve MAMS’s clients from the York and Scranton offices.

“We recognize that high-quality support is fundamental to the success of offender management programs,” Jake Dawes, Vigilnet’s chief operating officer, said in the release. “The jurisdictions throughout eastern Pennsylvania have established a solid reputation for being tough on alcohol-involved crimes and leveraging technologies in order to keep communities safe and high-risk offenders sober. We look forward to partnering with these courts and communities.”

Dawes said the expansion of his company is a sign that systems like Vigilnet are working to reduce overcrowding and costs, protect communities and support offender rehabilitation.
