Harrisburg Mall to expand with 10,400-square-foot building
Harrisburg Mall owners are putting the finishing touches on a plan for a 10,400-square-foot "outbuilding" in the mall's massive parking lot.
The building will host "six tenant suites," said mall director Bill Russell, and cater to shoppers who want to make quick purchases and get in and out fast. As for potential tenants, "we’re going to give them a viable location" to be successful, he added.
The building will be at Paxton Street and Mall Road, near the Applebee's restaurant. Building plans are expected to go before the Swatara Township commissioners in August.
“We have very strong interest in four of the six (tenant spots) already and we haven’t even built it yet,” Russell said.
St. John Properties Inc. and Petrie Ross Ventures purchased the mall in 2012 and promised a multimillion-dollar investment in upgrades. Since then, the company added new signage and a more accessible main entrance and demolished an unfinished space left by the previous owners — while attracting a few new tenants, including 2nd & Charles.
Russell said construction of the new building will begin "as soon as possible." He was unsure of the costs since there is no property to purchase and construction is done "in house."
