Helping with Habitat

(Photo / )

I had the opportunity to volunteer with our Lancaster office agents over at the 2014 Builder's Blitz at Lancaster Habitat for Humanity. It was great to meet all the regular volunteers and tradespeople working on the site, and we brought along another 20 helpers of our own.

Lancaster Habitat is adding two new duplexes to the property this year during the blitz, joining the six it built a few years ago on Fairview Street in Lancaster. To learn more about the Builders Blitz program, check out this link.

Another local Lancaster company, Stoner Bunting Advertising, was there on our day and provided a great barbeque lunch for all the volunteers, which was gratefully accepted by all.

During the morning, I had the chance to chat with Lancaster Habitat’s executive director, Stacie Reidenbaugh, and the organization’s communications manager, Valerie Hoback. It was very interesting to hear their passion for improving housing in Lancaster County and to talk about local government, land planning and other topics. I’m always pleasantly surprised at how much our profession of real estate dovetails with other community initiatives and concerns.

All of our agents and staff who volunteered had a great day and all for a great cause. And we’ll be back to help again.
