Karma, I answered this question more fully a while ago -- I'll have to see if I can find that post. But the short answer is, we initially used ACA/PPACA/health care reform, and got a lot of blank looks from business owners, even those in the health care industry. That's why I started using Obamacare regularly; because it's the most commonly understood term. Nothing partisan behind it.

If an employer has a mid-year renewal date and coverage was and will remain unaffordable how can an employee apply on the exchange as they don't have a SEP and if they take the employer plan pre-tax, they cant drop if at the HIX open enrollment. Is such an employee in a catch 22?

I've noticed that the only people who call it "Obamacare" are ones who inherently disagree with the contents/intent/politics behind the act. If you want to sound impartial, call it the ACA.
