Hampden Township awards $2.1 million road contract; work to start Monday

By

Hampden Township commissioners recently awarded a $2.1 million contract to Pennsy Supply for repairs to Orr's Bridge, Erb's Bridge and Skyport roads.

The contract includes sub-surface drainage pipes and road resurfacing to "significant portions" of the roads, the township said in a news release. While the lengthy roads are primarily in residential areas, one major township business will be affected.

The Pennsy Supply bid includes $902,980, Orr's Bridge Road; $739,159, Erb's Bridge Road and Skyport; $369,777, Salem Church Road and Brandy Lane; and $117,769, Terrace Road.

The township reported one other bidder: Handwerk Site Contractors of Hummelstown, which bid $2.6 million.

Work is scheduled to begin Monday along Orr’s Bridge and should be complete by mid-August.

Work along Erb’s Bridge and Skyport roads is scheduled to begin July 1 and be completed by the end of August. While there will be delays, access to developments and properties will be maintained throughout the project.

Armitage Golf Club -- with the on-site Caddy Shack Restaurant -- is at 800 Orr's Bridge Road and is owned by the township.

Kudos to Hampden Township officials. Too bad they can't add traffic calming measure while they're at it to slow drivers down and prevent passing on the shoulders on Skyport Road at Westover Village.
