The Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce today announced that Gregory D. Buckler has been named president and CEO.

Buckler is vice president of membership for the Maryland Chamber of Commerce. His appointment was approved unanimously at a Wednesday meeting of the chamber board of directors.

Buckler, who is a Maryland native, succeeds President and CEO Larry A. Bowman, who announced plans to retire Aug. 1.

Buckler was selected following a search process that attracted both local and national candidates, the chamber said in a news release. The search process included phone and on-site interviews.

Buckler will oversee the chamber’s new three-year strategic plan; development and oversight of its annual program of action; advocacy and public policy; organizational policies and structure; program and services development; membership relations and development; budget and finances; and staff administration. He will also serve as president of the Lebanon Valley Chamber Foundation.

Buckler, who will take over July 21, served a manager role with the Maryland chamber for seven years. He managed member services, including new business development and retention, sales, event planning and implementation, and customer service. He also worked closely with the board of directors, membership committee and Business Development Council to "grow the organization," the release said.

Buckler previously served as campaign manager for the Maryland Senate, where he managed the day-to-day operations. He also served as director of annual giving for the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland and as district director, senior district director and district executive with the Baltimore Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Buckler is a graduate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Organization Management at Villanova University and serves on the board of regents for the Villanova Institute site. He holds an MBA  from the University of Maryland University College and  a master's degree in management, with a specialization in nonprofit and association management, from the same university.

"Greg comes with strong membership and communication skills, among other things," said Margie Yohn, 2014 chairwoman of the board for the chamber and owner of BeYohnd Mail & Marketing. "The board is convinced he’s going to be just as successful in relating to the rest of the membership and community as he was with us."

Buckler, his wife, Cindy, and their three children live in Pasadena, Md., and will be relocating to Lebanon County, the release said.
