Broad Street Market board hires COO
The Broad Street Market Corp.'s board of directors has hired a chief operations officer for the historic Harrisburg market.
Ashlee Dugan, the great-granddaughter of former market butcher Gilbert Miller, will start as the full-time acting manager on June 18, said board President Jonathan Bowser, also CEO of the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corp.
“Ashlee has the Broad Street Market in her blood and her background in community organizing, marketing, event planning and management of a statewide organization equip her to be a great leader for our beloved market house,” Bowser said in a statement.
Dugan has been working for the Pennsylvania Downtown Center since 2012. She is the marketing and membership coordinator.
The market has been in a state of transition with a mayoral task force in place to make recommendations on how to improve it.
“Everyone wants to see the Broad Street Market succeed,” Dugan said in a statement. “The market’s assets out number its challenges and I am confident that positive change is on the horizon. I believe that a focus on local food, vendor development, facilities improvements and community involvement are the elements that will usher us into a successful next stage of the market.”
The Broad Street Market was founded in 1860, and is the oldest continuously operating market in the United States.
