Associations

The Greater Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce gave Kenneth R. Shoemaker its Business Achievement Award. He is a lifelong resident of the Cumberland Valley area. His more than 40-year banking career started in 1967 at Peoples National Bank of Shippensburg and continued with its successor, Dauphin Deposit Bank and Trust Co. He joined Orrstown Bank in 1986 was president and CEO for 22 years. He also has held leadership roles in numerous civic organizations throughout southcentral Pennsylvania, and has been a trustee of his alma mater, Shippensburg University, for the past 20 years.

Designations

The Pennsylvania Bar Association named seven midstate lawyers certified workers' compensation law specialists: Lawrence Barone and Stephen Schneider of Susquehanna Township-based Freeburn & Hamilton PC, Richard Hollingworth of Camp Hill-based Dethlefs-Pykosh Law Group LLC, Karl Januzzi and Jennifer Kline of Hampden Township-based Shollenberger & Januzzi LLP, Edward Knauss of Susquehanna Township-based Metzger Wickersham Knauss & Erb PC and Ronald Tomasko of Derry Township-based James Smith Dietterick & Connelly LLP.

Media

Swatara Township-based Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters gave 2014 Excellence in Broadcasting awards to a number of local outlets. WHTM-TV received an outstanding television website award; an outstanding television feature story, report or series award for its Hopeful Healing story that looked into the fight for medical marijuana legislation in Pennsylvania; and an outstanding television breaking news award for its coverage of the May 2013 fuel tanker that crashed and burned on a ramp connecting Interstate 81 to Route 322. WGAL-TV in Lancaster County received an award for an outstanding television promotional announcement or series; WPMT-TV in York County received an award for an outstanding television public service announcement or campaign; and WHP-TV in Dauphin County received an award for an outstanding investigative story. WFYY-FM in Snyder County, WGTY-FM in Adams County and WQXA-FM in Dauphin County received awards for outstanding radio promotional announcements or contests; WHP-AM in Dauphin County received an award for outstanding local radio newscast; WYCR-FM in York County received an award for an outstanding station-sponsored event; WMSS in Dauphin County received an award for outstanding radio coverage of a local sporting event; and Radio Pennsylvania in Dauphin County received an award for an outstanding radio public affairs program or series. WROZ-FM in Lancaster County received awards for an outstanding local radio personality or team and for an outstanding public service announcement or campaign.

Tourism

Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau gave 2013 Partner in Tourism Platinum Awards to a number of organizations and individuals. Premiere #1 Limousine received the V.I.P - Very Involved Partner award; the National Rifle Association received the Best New Event award for the 2014 Great American Outdoor Show; the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum received the Excellence in Programming award; and the Hershey Harrisburg Craft Beer Country Association received the Above & Beyond award. Highmark Blue Shield and the Pennsylvania Travel, Tourism & Film Office received the Bring It Home award for their sponsorship and support of the 2013 State Games of America. The Elegance at Hershey was named Charitable Organization of the Year, and Spooky Nook Sports Complex was named Business Development – New Business of the Year. Paul Vigna, a journalist and wine blogger with The Patriot-News and Pennlive.com, received the Friend of the Bureau award, and Lisa Stokes, owner of BRP Entertainment, and Scott McCoy, assistant general manager of Springhill Suites Hershey Near the Park, received Heart & Soul awards, which recognize those who generously volunteer their time, talent and energy to serve community programs, charitable causes or volunteer organizations. Nine hotels in the region received Keepin' It Fresh certificates that recognize newly built or recently renovated lodging properties: Candlewood Suites Harrisburg Hershey, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Hershey Chocolate Avenue, Best Western Premier the Central Hotel Harrisburg/Hershey, The Hotel Hershey, Hilton Harrisburg, Fairfield Inn by Marriott-Harrisburg/Hershey, Holiday Inn Express/Comfort Inn Mechanicsburg, Holiday Inn Harrisburg/Hershey and SpringHill Suites by Marriott Hershey Near the Park.
