Harrisburg-based Pennsylvania Builders Association named Warren Peter of Warren Peter Construction Inc. in Indiana County its Builder of the Year. The Wayne County Builders Association received the Best Community Service Project award for its playhouse raffle project that donated six custom-built playhouses to children living with life-threatening illnesses and $19,700 to the Make-a-Wish program. Lancaster-based Building Industry Association of Lancaster County received the Best Local Newsletter award for its Lancaster Builder magazine, and Mark McNaughton of McNaughton Homes in Susquehanna Township received the Hammers & Gavels award for outstanding service educating legislators on housing issues.
The Middle States region of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society named Harrisburg Area Community College’s Alpha Nu Omega chapter a Five Star Chapter for the 14th year in a row. It also was named a Middle States Gold Chapter, which designates chapters that achieve Five Star status, increase membership and are active in regional events. HACC student Diane Nadolny was named a Middle States Region Hall of Honor Member and one of three regional Distinguished Chapter Members. Nathaniel Glick, chapter president of Alpha Nu Omega, was named a Middle States Region Hall of Honor Chapter Officer and one of three regional Distinguished Chapter Officers. Jennifer St. Pierre, an assistant professor of sociology at the Lancaster campus, received the Middle States Region Distinguished Advisor Award. The chapter also received a regional Communications Award for its website and newsletter and a regional College Project Hallmark Award for its work to establish a supportive relationship between the chapter and the college administration. In addition, Phi Theta Kappa International named the chapter one of its Top 100 Chapters. Glick was named a Distinguished Chapter Officer; St. Pierre received a Distinguished Advisor Award; and Michael Shoemaker received an Alumni Award of Appreciation.
The Mental Health Association of the Capital Region gave West Cornwall Township-based Philhaven and its medical director, Dr. Fran Sparrow, its I‘m the Evidence Award for their committed work in mental health. Philhaven has provided a continuum of compassionate, caring programs and services for children, adolescents, adults and older adults for more than 60 years, and as its medical director and director of child/adolescent services, Sparrow has been instrumental in developing and supporting these programs, as well as supporting the mental health community at large for many years.
Ohio-based DNV GL Healthcare named WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital in York Township a DNV-accredited hospital, which integrates ISO 9001 quality compliance with Medicare conditions of participation. In addition to excellent patient care, DNV surveyors were impressed by the staff’s openness, the facility’s cleanliness and the quality management program.
