Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries has appointed Scott Habecker to a new combined role of chief operating and financial officer.
Habecker, a CPA who lives in the Hershey area, joined Diakon in 2009 as senior vice president for planning and business development and has been its chief operating officer since 2012.
Mark Pile, Diakon president and CEO, said in a news release that the move was because of "the desire to streamline and integrate key efforts around operational excellence, clinical quality and performance, and financial strength."
Diakon also is transitioning Richard Barger, who also is a CPA and resident of the Hershey area, to the new role of treasurer. He will focus on relationships with banks and bond-related credit ratings agencies, investment strategies in cooperation with Diakon boards of directors and development of potential funding relationships.
Habecker and Barger's positions are on the executive vice president level.
Dating to 1868, Diakon operates a dozen senior living and housing communities and offers a range of programs for children and families, including adoption, foster care, at-risk youth services and counseling. The organization, which is based in Allentown, also manages Pennsylvania’s Statewide Adoption & Permanency Network.
