Lancaster County strongest midstate metro for small-business jobs
Lancaster County and Harrisburg are better than average when it comes to small-business job prospects in the nation's 100 largest metropolitan areas.
Wallet Hub, a personal finance website, has Lancaster at No. 38 and Harrisburg at No. 45 on its list of best and worst cities to work for a small business.
The website used 10 metrics — including net small-business job growth, industry variety, average hours worked and average monthly earnings for new hires — to evaluate each metro area. Unemployment rate and cost of living were among other factors in the analysis.
In Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh came in at No. 26, while Philadelphia was No. 33. Allentown and Scranton ranked near the bottom of the list at No. 72 and No. 96, respectively.
Wallet Hub put Minneapolis, Minn., at the top of the list. The worst metro was Stockton, Calif.
