York-based Kinsley Construction completed construction of a new regional distribution center for Dollar General in Bethel Township, Berks County. The 1 million-square-foot facility will supply more than 1,000 Dollar General stores throughout the northeast. The project included LED lighting, a computerized energy management system that automatically controls lighting and interior climate to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and a siphonic roof drain system, which is engineered to siphon water off the roof at a high velocity. The design requires fewer drains and eliminates external downspouts, and roof slopes can be reduced, which increases the building clear-height and minimizes excavation for underground piping. Leo A. Daly Architects is the project architect.
