Closed Perdue plant getting some attention

By ,

Perdue Farms said this week it has multiple companies interested in buying its shuttered Lebanon County plant but nothing imminent for a sale.

Company spokeswoman Julie DeYoung said the company is talking to companies interested in the Bethel Township plant but has not made a decision on its future yet.

The Booth Creek Natural Chicken plant employed about 620 people in January and closed March 14.

DeYoung said the company still is deciding whether it will put the Route 22 plant on the market itself or list it with a commercial real estate company.

“Those decisions will be made at a later date pending the outcome of current discussions (with interested parties),” DeYoung said.

She said the company did not want to disclose additional details, including what companies are interested in the 20-acre property and how many.

Perdue decided to close the plant and move the jobs to its other facilities because it wasn’t large enough and the cost to modernize it was too expensive, company officials previously said.
