Giant-size structures made entirely of canned food are once again on display in Harrisburg to help fight hunger.
Six teams competed in the eighth annual Canstruction event in Central Pennsylvania. Teams are made up of regional architects, engineers, contractors and students.
Structures were built last week. They will be on display until Friday at the Keystone Building at 400 North St.
Cumberland County-based Giant Food Stores Inc. donated more than 18,400 pounds of food, which will be sent to Project SHARE in Carlisle and then distributed to local food banks and pantries across Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster and York counties.
The event also raised $3,600, said Daniel Snyder, event coordinator from Michael Baker Jr. Inc., one of the event sponsors.
Entries are judged in the following categories: best meal, best use of labels, structural ingenuity and jurors' favorite. Local award-winning structures compete in the national Canstruction competition.
