By

The number of unemployment insurance claims fell by about 10,000 last week, the U.S. Labor Department reported.

Labor said the number of seasonally adjusted initial claims was 311,000. That’s down 3.4 percent from the 321,000 reported the week before.

The four-week moving average was 317,750, a decrease of 9,500 — nearly 3 percent — from the previous week’s revised average of 327,250.

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 273,411 in the week ending March 22, a decrease of 12,559 — 4.3 percent — from the previous week, Labor reported. There were 315,620 initial claims in the comparable week in 2013.
