Initial unemployment claims fall

The number of initial unemployment insurance claims fell for the first full week of March, according to the Department of Labor.

Claims fell to 315,000 from 324,000, according to a news release, a decrease of 2.77 percent. The four-week average was 330,500, down about 1.86 percent from the previous week’s revised average of 336,750.

The number continuing to claim benefits fell to 2,855,000, a decrease of about 1.65 percent from the preceding week’s revised level of 2,903,000.
