York-based retailer Bon-Ton is opening a 20,000-square-foot Carson's Clearance Center in Morton Grove, Ill., a Chicago suburb.

It is the company's third free-standing clearance center, according to a news release. The store in Morton Grove will feature women's, men's and children's apparel, shoes, handbags and home items.

"We believe consumers in the area will appreciate this new addition to the Carson's shopping experience," Brendan Hoffman, president and chief executive officer, said in the release.

The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. also has headquarters Milwaukee and operates 270 department stores, including 10 furniture galleries, in 25 states in the Northeast, Midwest and upper Great Plains. In addition to Bon-Ton and Carson's, the store also operates under the Bergner's, Boston Store, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's and Younkers nameplates.

Shares are traded on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol BONT.
