York-based engineering and architectural firm Buchart Horn has acquired a Lake Placid, Fla., company to help build a worldwide coastal and marine engineering practice.

Beacon Design Inc.’s president, George Tibedo, was named an associate vice president at Buchart Horn, leading the company’s new Coastal & Marine Engineering Group. The goal is to grow the company’s client base in Florida and other locations.

“Mr. Tibedo’s proven coastal, marine and ocean engineering background coupled with his strong communication skills will enhance Buchart Horn’s ability to serve its existing and new clients through an expansion of its already comprehensive architectural and engineering services,” Brian Funkhouser, president and CEO of Buchart Horn, said in a news release.

The Marine & Coastal Group will offer comprehensive waterfront, coastal and marine engineering services, according to the release. Those include feasibility assessments, environmental assessments and remediation; planning; coastal and marine engineering; structural engineering; marine geotechnical engineering; facilities design; threat and vulnerability assessment; and program and construction management for many waterfront, marine and coastal projects worldwide.

Buchart Horn has offices in 10 states and Germany. With the acquisition, the new Buchart Horn Heartland Florida office will be in Lake Placid.
