Natural-gas fueling stations coming to midstate

By

A pair of gas stations in the midstate will receive state funding to construct alternative fueling stations.

Pennsylvania's Commonwealth Financing Authority approved almost $2 million in funding to Love's Travel Stops and Country Stores to build compressed-natural-gas fueling stations in Cumberland and Lebanon counties.

Each grant is worth $924,809. Love's also received $885,910 for construction of another natural-gas fueling station in Columbia County. The total cost to install the three new stations is $13.5 million, according to the state.

The Cumberland County location is on the Harrisburg Pike in Middlesex Township, while the Lebanon County location is on Fisher Avenue in Union Township.

Kealey Dorian, media specialist at Love's, said Monday there is no specific timetable on when the fueling stations will be installed or functional, but she said it is "very near the top of the priority list" for the company.

"We want to move forward with giving our customers in Pennsylvania options," she said.

The company will install a pair of dual-hose, high-flow dispensers for tractor-trailers and one dual-hose dispenser for light-duty and private vehicle use at each site. The cost of the project includes running natural-gas lines to the sites to ensure adequate supply and pressure to meet the demand of commercial vehicles, according to the state.

The state also approved funding for sites in Chester, Montgomery, Northampton and Philadelphia counties for a total of about $4.5 million from the Alternative and Clean Energy Program.

The grants are projected to result in more than $16.7 million in economic development, according to a state news release.
