PPL Electric Utilities Corp., a subsidiary of Allentown-based PPL Corp., has elected Stephanie Raymond to the new board position of vice president for transmission and substations.

The officer-level position reflects the company's commitment to improving its transmission and substation network, according to a news release.

"The safe and reliable operation of the transmission system, including construction of new facilities where needed, is a major part of that improvement," said Gregory Dudkin, PPL Electric Utilities president.

The company has been investing in new technology, installing more storm-resistant equipment, and removing more trees from around power lines to prevent power outages and to restore power faster to customers, Dudkin said.

Raymond joined PPL in 2011 as a director for project and contract management. She has been leading the transmission and substation organization since July 2012. Before coming to PPL, she was chief operating officer of CablenetServices Inc.

PPL trades it shares on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol PPL. It serves about 1.4 million customers in Pennsylvania.
