Are we back? Where does the housing market go from here?

By ,

The numbers would suggest the local housing market is thriving again.

Just look at the recent sales figures from the Greater Harrisburg Association of Realtors, or 2013 data from Lebanon and York counties.

Most months and quarters were up over the previous year. And residential building permits continue to trend up.

So why does it feel a little like we're still in a recession?

Government gridlock has fueled business uncertainty and spending, which have impacted job growth and other facets of the economy.

But a budget deal should help ease the tension, which could mean an even better 2014 for the housing market. At least that's what national media has been saying over the last week.

Here is a MarketWatch report and another from the Associated Press.

After a solid 2013, which followed an upswing in 2012, where do local home sales go from here? Based on some of the plans we're seeing from builders, I'd say up.

Let me know your thoughts.
