The Ben Franklin Shale Gas Innovation and Commercialization Center is offering four $25,000 grants as part of a contest for entrepreneurs in the industry.
The program will award the grants to the four best shale-gas-oriented innovations, new product ideas or service concepts in the development stage or recently launched.
Traditionally, the award has been limited to Pennsylvania, but for this third round of funding, the territory has been expanded to include West Virginia.
The contest is open to researchers, small businesses and innovators. All ideas in the shale gas space are eligible, though companies with more than $10 million in sales are not eligible. If the product being entered already has been rolled out, it cannot have exceeded $1 million in sales.
Contest entries are due Feb. 1, with winners expected to be notified by April 1.
